We spoke to Christian Lopez about our win over College 1975, the match on Saturday against Lions, and more.
Christian reflected on our 5-0 win over College last weekend, “I think we had an excellent first half. Scoring those 3 goals quickly was very important for us. College made it difficult for us to get back into the game in the second half. Although I think we had an all-around good game and it was good to see some players back from injury get some minutes.”
Next up for the team is Lions this Saturday at 4pm – we asked Christian how the team has been this week, “We know Lions have improved this season. I am sure they will make it difficult for us on Saturday. The team is in high spirits going into the game. We have to make sure we stick together and keep to our game plan as we have been doing throughout the season.”
Christian has been called up to the Gibraltar senior team on several occasions, most recently for their two international friendlies last month. We asked Christian how it felt to be with the National Team, “Any call up for the National Team is an honour. Whether I am on the pitch, bench, or even in the stands, I am always honoured to represent my country and support my teammates on the field. I was proud to be part of the last squad to play in the Victoria Stadium before it is stripped down and reconstructed.”
Lastly, Christian gave us an insight into his goals for the season – “This season I haven’t played as many minutes as I possibly could have. My main goal for the rest of the season is to work hard, enjoy my football and get back to playing as much as I can so I can finish the season strong.”
